After college, I spent many years spinning my wheels, working any number of jobs: as a rug roller in an Oriental rug factory; a sweeper and trash man at a giant mechanized mill; a bookseller in a lovely but foundering bookstore; and finally as a delivery driver for FedEx. Along the way, I managed to retain my desire to write, and made it back to school. Now I teach composition and literature at Lander University in South Carolina. I just put the finishing touches on a short story collection and am trying to figure out how to write a novel. Very, very slowly. Many of my stories have been published, most notably in Harpur Palate, The Chaffin Journal, and one forthcoming in The Blue Lake Review.
