Maria Reva likes to sit and write things. Mainly things that are short and fictional, with tragic topics such as cubicles, plastified canaries, nurses who eat children, and children who eat nothing.
On a brighter note, her radio play Sashko follows one man’s (successful) journey to becoming a professional mourner.
Maria wrote and illustrated her first story at the age of nine. “Switching Planets With Aliens During A Giant Snowstorm†was a hit in Grade 4 literary circles, though critics fear her writing has yet to reach the same level of nuance. Her most recent story, “The Methodology of Grace,†was shortlisted for The Writers’ Union of Canada’s 2012 Short Prose Competition.
