Charley Roberts is a journalist and military historian. He has been an investigative reporter and state capital correspondent for the Orange County Register and Washington bureau chief and executive editor of the Los Angeles Daily Journal. His work also has appeared in Military History Quarterly, Forbes, California Journal and Sacramento Magazine. His latest book, “Devil Dog†Dan Daly, America’s Fightin’est Marine (McFarland & Co., 2021), is about a legendary hero of the Boxer Rebellion, the ‘banana wars†and World War I who twice received the Medal of Honor and was recommended for an unprecedented third award. He is the co-author of a biography of America’s most celebrated soldier of fortune, Charles Sweeny, the Man Who Inspired Hemingway (McFarland & Co., 2017). He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from California State University, Long Beach.
