I graduated from the same school as Jean Michel-Basquiat and Gwendolyn Brooks. I find myself in good company of minority artists who didn’t receive the traditional college education. Well, I do have some college; I have a little bit of everything. I’m a first-generation Pakistani American with the exhausted dream of being understood, a hard thing in a climate of frigid politics and a scalding upbringing of broken people who decided their try at parenting. My work is a "coming of being" rather than the "coming of age" (it had to be said). I pace my body of work as though the reader is "in it" with me. I practice the stacking of Social commentary, personal thoughts, depression, erotica, dating, love, breaking up, boyhood, limerence, addiction, mortality, and marriage. - Jim Wasson
