I am someone who has faced and overcome significant life challenges. From a young age, my family experienced financial struggles and the threat of eviction. We had to live in cramped quarters, including an attic and a basement. However, these difficult experiences only strengthened our family bond and individual resolves.
At the age of 14, I took on a full-time job to contribute financially and support my family. This allowed my mother to save money and pursue her education, eventually becoming a medical assistant. My sister also achieved success, earning her GED and excelling in a dental office. Even my learning-disabled older brother found his path and became a general manager at a local restaurant.
Despite our low-income status, I excelled academically and actively engaged in community service. I worked long hours, taking on various jobs to supplement my income. I also embraced every one of my leadership roles, of which there were many, with courage, resilience, & accountability.
