Greetings,
I have been writing poetry since I was in the fourth grade, and never really stopped. I am also a musician, visual artist, educator, and at-risk youth mentor. My book of poetry, Words of Fire:Poems of Power, is a collection of poems that I've been writing over the past 10 years. My poetry can be very philosophical and academic at times. I always include rhyme, and don't tend to follow any traditional formats, such as sonnets, haiku, etc. My poetry always has social, cultural, historical, or political messages. I also do my best to make my poetry have a therapeutic quality, so that readers can feel relaxed or enlightened by my words. I am currently recording my poetry in order put together my first CD of spoken word. I like to put my words over music, so that rhythm and melody can help create the emotions intended for the images in the poetry. My poetry is for everyone.
