I have 30 years’ experience as a news reporter and more than 20 years’ experience as a Public Affairs Specialist with the Navy Reserve, Navy Diver and underwater photographer.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and now reside in Oxnard, CA. I received a BA in Journalism from Humboldt State University and a MFA from the University of San Francisco.
Shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, I was deployed several times, amounting essentially to a full time job, leaving my journalism career behind. Although as a Navy journalist and public affairs specialist, I had the opportunity to write and photograph stories for the Navy in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and many other places. My writing reflects many of the experiences and characters I have been exposed to while in the service.
