Sara Deniz Akant is a Turkish-American educator, poet and performer. She is the author of BABETTE, selected by Maggie Nelson for the Black Box Poetry Prize and published by Rescue Press in 2015, as well as the chapbooks PARADES, selected by Gillian Conoley and published by Omnidawn in 2014, and LATRONIC STRAG, published by Persistent Editions in 2015.Â
Akant holds an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and has taught writing the University of Iowa and the City University of New York. She has been the recipient of awards from the Academy of American Poets, as well as an artist in residence at Yaddo and MacDowell. She currently lives in Brooklyn, where she researches 20th century poetry and poetics as a doctoral candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center.
