Tamar Shapiro-Tamir grew up first in a retro-hippie family and then at the Lehman Alternative Community School, where she learned that everyone should have a voice. However, she also grew up as a lesbian, and learned that not everyone does have a voice. This is the primary reason why she writes: to give a voice to the silent.
Tamar is the writer of the novel 'Extrema', the first chapter of which can now be seen in the Write Launch, the poem 'Autobiography', which will be published in the Lavender Review in December of 2017, and the play 'The Young Queers Strike Back', which premiered in her hometown of Ithaca, New York, in 2016.
